BLADE FREE LASIK

A new and safer method for creating the flap in Lasik surgery is now available with the Carl Zeiss VisuMax blade free laser.

  • Highest degree of precision and predictability in creating the flap
  • Better safety
  • Individualised flaps
  • Greater range of patient eligibility

How does the VisuMax work?

To create the Lasik flap a computer guided femtosecond laser beam applies a series of tiny pulses of laser light to form a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of the cornea.  No cutting blade is required (as with forming  Lasik flaps with the current technology).  This creates a precise thin flap which can be gently lifted and seperated from the cornea by your surgeon and then gently folded back to expose the surface to be treated by the Excimer Laser.  After the Excimer Laser treatment to reshape the cornea to the desired refractive treatment, the flap is placed back into position over the treated area.
